The Girona Art Museum reveals Concha Ibáñez's method in her first posthumous exhibition

The Girona Art Museum will open "Concha Ibáñez. The evocation of landscape" on June 18, 2025, the first posthumous exhibition dedicated to the Catalan painter in Catalonia. Curated by Elina Norandi, the show brings together over 60 works organized into sections on Almería, Lanzarote, Castilla, and the Catalan landscape, alongside drawings, sketches, prints, personal objects, and photographic portraits by Colita and sculptural portraits by Ferran Soriano, Pascual Casaubon, and Agustín Mir. The exhibition runs until January 10, 2027, with guided tours, family workshops, and a round table featuring Juan Carlos Bejarano, Lluïsa Faxedas, and Maria Garganté.

This exhibition matters because it coincides with the centenary of Ibáñez's birth and the fourth anniversary of her death, offering a comprehensive review of a painter who sustained a decades-long career through self-promotion under Franco's regime while being a clandestine militant of the PSUC. By revealing her working method—traveling to locations, making on-site sketches and photographs, then painting from memory in her studio—the show highlights a distinctive artistic process that defined her landscape series, cementing her legacy in Catalan art history.
