WPCA to host 'Freedom' exhibit celebrating America's semiquincentennial

The West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) is hosting a multimedia art exhibition titled “Freedom” at the West Plains Civic Center in Missouri, celebrating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The exhibit runs through July 17 and features 24 original works by nine individual artists and one regional collective, including L.L. Broadfoot, Nancy Clayburn, and the Calico Cabin Sew-ciety, spanning mediums such as oil paintings, photography, metal sculpture, and quilting. A "Meet the Artist" reception is scheduled for June 24.

This exhibition matters because it engages a local community in reflecting on the concept of freedom through diverse artistic perspectives, while also marking a major national milestone—the U.S. semiquincentennial. By showcasing regional talent and receiving support from city and state arts agencies, the event underscores the role of grassroots arts organizations in fostering cultural dialogue and celebrating American heritage at the local level.
