FAD NEWS: The most interesting new art space in SoHo opens in a former Jackie Winsor loft.

Abby Caulkins has founded Studio2M, a new artist-centered project space in a historic SoHo loft that was once home to post-minimal sculptor Jackie Winsor for over fifty years. The space launches in 2026 with an inaugural exhibition titled "Ad Hoc," featuring French artist Marie Hazard and Portuguese designer Constança Entrudo, whose collaborative work explores weaving as both material process and conceptual language. Studio2M operates as both a workshop and exhibition space, inviting artists to create work on-site and engage with the building's layered history, which spans textile manufacturing to artist studios.

This opening matters because Studio2M represents an alternative model to conventional white-cube galleries, emphasizing intimacy, relationships, and creative exchange over scale. The space's flexible structure—combining exhibitions, artistic production, and brand collaborations—reflects a growing conversation in the art world about sustainability and maintaining artist-centered practices. The discovery of a 1992 ArtNews interview linking Winsor to the Ad Hoc Committee of Women Artists provides a historical thread connecting different generations of women working across art and design, underscoring the space's commitment to rethinking how artists create and sustain their practices.
