The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation has announced the recipients of its one-time Rauschenberg Centennial Award, a $100,000 unrestricted prize honoring the artist's 100th birthday. Winners include artist Senga Nengudi, performer David Thomson, photographers Chandra McCormick and Keith Calhoun, and poet Patricia Spears Jones, all of whom were selected from past participants of the foundation's Captiva Residency program.
The awards mark a significant shift in the foundation's strategy, as it simultaneously sunsets its long-running Captiva Residency and plans to sell the island property. The prizes recognize both the artistic impact of the recipients—who work across disciplines and often explore themes of social justice—and inaugurate a new phase of funding aimed at supporting artists directly in their own communities, aligning with Rauschenberg's collaborative and experimental legacy.
