Art of Birds exhibit on display at Museum of Northern History

The third annual Art of Birds juried exhibition opened at the Museum of Northern History on June 17, 2026, featuring 38 selected works from 96 entries by artists across Canada and the United States. Local artist Dan Nadeau received an honorable mention in the Museum and Museum Auxiliary Juror's Choice Award category for his piece "Watching You Watching Me." The event also included a student exhibition titled "What Our Hands Can Make," teaching grade ten students to create watercolor paint from plant-based pigments and felted landscapes.

The exhibition matters because it demonstrates how community-focused art events can draw broad participation and serve as effective fundraisers for local museums. By attracting entries from provinces as far as New Brunswick and Alberta, as well as from the United States, the show highlights the unifying appeal of bird-themed art across regions. The accompanying student exhibition also addresses the important goal of encouraging hands-on creativity away from digital screens.
