Exhibition 'Threads of Remembrance' opens at National Carpet Museum [PHOTOS]

The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum has opened the 'Threads of Remembrance' exhibition, featuring works by Finnish artists Elina Juopperi and Henna Aho alongside household textiles from the family collection of Finland's Ambassador to the South Caucasus, Kirsti Narinen. Speeches at the opening were delivered by museum director Amina Malikova, Ambassador Narinen, and Jahangir Salimkhanov, Adviser to the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan. The exhibition is curated by Konul Rafiyeva and organized with the Office of the Ambassador of Finland, with partners including Frame Contemporary Art Finland, HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme, and EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art.

This exhibition matters because it positions textile art as a living medium for cultural memory and cross-cultural dialogue, connecting Finnish and Azerbaijani traditions through contemporary artistic practice. By featuring artists who explore endangered languages, ecological interdependence, and collective making, the show highlights how textiles transmit knowledge and experience across generations, reinforcing the role of craft in shaping national and shared heritage. The inclusion of the ambassador's personal collection adds a diplomatic dimension, underscoring soft-power cultural exchange between Finland and Azerbaijan.
