Thaddaeus Ropac gallery has announced a collaboration with the newly formed Leoncillo Foundation to represent the estate of Leoncillo Leonardi (1915–1968), a pivotal but underrecognized figure in postwar Italian sculpture. The partnership will launch with an exhibition in September 2026 at the gallery's Milan location, aiming to expand research, visibility, and international presence for the artist, who radically transformed ceramics into a medium of existential expression.
This initiative is part of a broader trend in the art world to rediscover 20th-century Italian masters who have not yet achieved full global recognition, alongside figures like Leonor Fini, Carol Rama, and Carla Accardi. By partnering with a major international gallery network, the project seeks to consolidate Leoncillo's standing and bring his innovative, gestural ceramic works to a wider audience, underscoring the ongoing reassessment of postwar Italian art history.
