Two Atlanta-based galleries, Memento Gallery and Alday Hunken Gallery, have formed a partnership to share a physical space and curatorial vision. Memento Gallery, founded by Madison Dailey in 2023, and Alday Hunken Gallery, led by Alfonso Alday Vergara with locations in Atlanta and Mexico City, will collaborate on exhibitions and programming. Their first joint show, "Held Traces," features paintings by Gabriel Choto and stone sculptures by Paula Cortazar, on view through June 22 at Memento Gallery.
This partnership matters because it reflects a growing trend among smaller galleries to adapt to economic pressures by sharing resources and space. Dailey and Vergara aim to elevate Atlanta's contemporary art scene and foster cross-cultural dialogue between Atlanta and Mexico City, two cities they believe are overlooked but culturally significant. The collaboration also highlights the resilience of small galleries in the face of rising costs and the challenges of participating in art fairs, drawing inspiration from alternative models like New York's U-Haul Gallery.
