Gold by Serakai Studio has launched its inaugural exhibition, "Certainly," in Hong Kong’s Wong Chuk Hang district. Curated by Tobias Berger, the former head of art at Tai Kwun, the show features 50 works by 11 diverse artists that explore themes of unpredictability and experimentation. The exhibition takes its conceptual cue from La Monte Young’s 1960 Fluxus score, "Draw a straight line and follow it," using the impossibility of that task as a metaphor for navigating global instability.
This opening marks a significant return for Tobias Berger to the Hong Kong art scene and signals the arrival of Serakai Studio as a new independent cultural think tank. By moving away from the rigid mandates of major public institutions like M+ or Tai Kwun, Berger and his team are positioning Gold as a space for more open-ended, boundary-pushing curation. The show reflects a broader trend of boutique art spaces in Hong Kong providing a platform for conceptual and medium-blending works that challenge traditional gallery norms.
