Baltimore-born artist Mark Anthony West Jr. is debuting a new body of work titled "Seven Stars Between Two Skies" at the Lord Baltimore Hotel. Created during a residency in Rio de Janeiro, the exhibition features portraits of American and Brazilian creatives depicted as sovereign forces, utilizing signature elements like terra cotta noses, metallic leaf, and symbolic ribbons to explore Afro-diasporic themes and spiritual lineage.
The exhibition is part of the hotel's "Good Taste" series, an initiative launched in 2018 by the Rubell family to support local talent and integrate contemporary art into public hospitality spaces. By providing a platform for West—who also directs an arts center in Brazil—the program highlights the intersection of local community engagement and international artistic exchange, while offering the public free access to museum-quality contemporary portraiture.
