ktx biennial dallas launch 1234777042

The Katy Trail, a prominent 3.5-mile urban greenway in Dallas, has announced the launch of the KTX Biennial, a new public art initiative set to debut in Spring 2027. Curated by Jovanna Venegas, currently of New York’s SculptureCenter, the inaugural edition will feature site-specific commissions and sculptures installed along the trail for up to 18 months. The project is an evolution of a pilot public art program started in 2021 by the Friends of the Katy Trail, intended to integrate contemporary art into the daily experience of the park's two million annual visitors.

This initiative marks a significant expansion of Dallas’s cultural landscape, utilizing a public-private partnership model to bring high-caliber contemporary art outside of traditional museum walls. By appointing a curator with major institutional experience at SFMOMA and SculptureCenter, the biennial aims to establish a cohesive, professionalized platform for public sculpture and performance. The 18-month exhibition cycle takes strategic advantage of local temporary art policies, signaling a long-term commitment to making Dallas a destination for large-scale, accessible outdoor art installations.
