unseen artwork former beatle stuart sutcliffe on view 2741718

Four previously unseen artworks by Stuart Sutcliffe, the original bassist for The Beatles, have gone on display at the Liverpool Beatles Museum. The exhibition includes a collage and a sketch from his student days at Liverpool College of Art, as well as two monochromatic lithographs created later while he was studying in Hamburg after leaving the band.

The exhibition highlights Sutcliffe's significant, yet often overshadowed, legacy as a visual artist, distinct from his brief tenure as a musician. It revives interest in his artistic talent, which was praised by his tutor Eduardo Paolozzi and recognized during his lifetime with a work acquired by collector John Moores. The show underscores the 'what if' narrative of a promising artistic career cut short by his death at age 21.
