Louvre Abu Dhabi director Manuel Rabaté leaves to head India’s largest private art museum

Manuel Rabaté, the inaugural director of the Louvre Abu Dhabi since 2016, has been appointed as the first chief executive and director of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in New Delhi. He will step down from his current role on March 7 and join the Indian museum in the first half of this year.

Rabaté's move signals a major expansion for KNMA, India's leading private art museum, which is preparing to move from a shopping mall to a new, purpose-built 100,000-square-meter complex designed by David Adjaye Associates. His experience in launching and operating a universal museum is seen as crucial for KNMA's ambition to become the largest museum and cultural center in South Asia, broadening its collection scope beyond Modern and contemporary art to include antiquities and miniatures.
