Inside Frieze New York 2026: The Best Booths and Standout Moments of the Art Fair

Frieze New York 2026 opened at the Shed in Hudson Yards, drawing a record crowd of collectors, artists, and celebrities on preview day. The fair featured over 65 international galleries, with a strong presence of Latin American artists and a notable shift toward textile-based works, sculpture, and paper pieces. Highlights included the Ruinart Art Lounge with preparatory studies by Tadashi Kawamata, and the Focus section spotlighting emerging galleries. Notable attendees included Leonardo DiCaprio, gallerist Almine Rech, and Sotheby's senior vice president Ralph DeLuca.

The Rimowa Design Prize has awarded its fourth edition to Samuel Nagel and Paul Feiler from the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Applied Sciences for their bracelet "Nura," which translates sign language into spoken language and converts speech into written text. Other finalists include Jakob Schlenker's bird-shaped device to encourage movement in the elderly, Niklas Henning's harvesting system for restoring moors, Tobias Kremer and Yannick Stilgenbauer's inflatable cooling capsule for use without electricity, and Valerio Sampognaro's lightweight furniture that can both support and lift off. The exhibition runs until May 13 at the Berlin Kulturforum.

UES Galleries Open Their Doors For Free Event This Weekend

45 galleries along Madison Avenue on Manhattan's Upper East Side will open their doors for the free Madison Avenue Spring Art Walk on Saturday, May 13, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participating spaces include the newly opened Gagosian gallery, which is showing a Marcel Duchamp exhibition, as well as Di Donna (featuring Salvador Dalí works) and Acquavella Galleries (featuring Henri Matisse works). Several galleries will host artist talks, including Luxembourg + Co. on motorized technologies in 20th-century art and D Lan Galleries on Australian First Nations art. The event is co-hosted by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District and ARTnews, and has been held every May and October since 2008.
