‘Slowing the process down’: how a bohemian Somerset art gallery is forging its own path

Close gallery, founded in 2009 by curator and art advisor Freeny Yianni in the grounds of her 17th-century home near Hatch Beauchamp, Somerset, is expanding its operations. Perrotin Gallery in Paris is presenting a new exhibition titled "When I Think of You in Spring" by Japanese-born artist Susumu Kamijo, running from April 25 to May 30, 2026. This is the artist's second solo show at the venue, following "The Sun Inside" in 2023. The exhibition features a series of paintings populated by large flowers, fruits, birds, butterflies, and animals such as parrots and a sailfish, set against backgrounds of clouds, horizon lines, and hills. At 82, ceramicist Pippin Drysdale is the subject of a major retrospective, "Infinite Terrain," which opened in December at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). The exhibition, curated by Isobel Wise, spans Drysdale's prolific 40-year career and was sparked by a chance, spirited encounter with AGWA director Colin Walker. Drysdale, who began ceramics in 1981 after earlier ventures in herbs and paper flowers, studied at Perth Tech, Anderson Ranch in Colorado, and Curtin University, and her work has been deeply influenced by travels to Italy, Siberia, and Russia.

The United Asian American Alliance hosted the 3rd Annual AAPI Art Exhibit at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, a month-long showcase of Asian American creativity and heritage.
