Roberto Lugo brings monumental tribute to Puerto Rican culture to Manhattan park

Roberto Lugo has unveiled a monumental 20ft-tall urn titled *Capicú de Cariño (I Heard It Both Ways)* (2026) in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park, as part of his exhibition *Alfarero del Barrio (Village Potter)* commissioned by the Madison Square Park Conservancy. The urn features portraits of prominent Puerto Rican figures including Bad Bunny, Sonia Sotomayor, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Roberto Clemente, and the artist’s own parents, Gilberto and Maribel Lugo. The installation also includes a 15ft-tall orange fire hydrant sculpture, *Para Los Días Caliente (This Is For The Hot Ones)* (2026), and several planters and domino tables, all designed to invite public interaction and community engagement.

'It's about world-making': Tavares Strachan on his expansive new Lacma exhibition

Tavares Strachan's new solo exhibition, *The Day Tomorrow Began*, has opened at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Lacma), running until 29 March 2026. Co-organized with the Columbus Museum of Art, the show features 20 new works across neon, ceramics, bronze, painting, text, and performance, exploring invisible histories and challenging white-centric narratives. The exhibition includes a spotlight on his *Encyclopedia of Invisibility* (2018), bronze sculptures referencing the Haitian Revolution, and a neon piece contrasting James Baldwin and Mark Twain. Strachan, who trained as a cosmonaut and collaborates with MIT scientists, also unveils a permanent participatory speakeasy called *Bar Room* in Columbus.

Philadelphia Museum of Art previews "Rocky" exhibit

The Philadelphia Museum of Art previewed a new exhibition titled "Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments," timed to coincide with the nation's 250th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the "Rocky" film. The exhibition focuses on the iconic Rocky statue at the base of the museum's steps, and a talk featured guest curator Paul Farber and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde, daughter of boxing legend Joe Frazier. A statue of Joe Frazier will be moved to the base of the Art Museum steps, where the Rocky statue once stood. The exhibit opens to the public on April 25, 2026.
