Guggenheim to Screen Artistic Portrait of Soccer Legend Zinédine Zidane

The Guggenheim Museum in New York will screen Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno's 2006 film "Zidane, a 21st century portrait" from June 11 to July 19, 2026, timed with the FIFA World Cup. The two-channel video piece follows French soccer legend Zinédine Zidane during a 90-minute match between Real Madrid and Villarreal, captured by 17 cameras to create an intimate, voyeuristic portrait of the player. This marks the film's first showing at the Guggenheim since the museum acquired one of 17 unique editions.

Art Basel Qatar Announces Artistic Director and Theme for 2027 Edition

Art Basel Qatar has appointed Iraqi curator Wassan Al-Khudhairi as artistic director for its second edition, scheduled for January 28–30, 2027, in Doha. The fair will be themed “between / بين,” exploring states of betweenness and fluid cultural encounters, and will feature a scaled-up Special Projects sector with large-scale, site-specific works, alongside solo gallery presentations. Al-Khudhairi, a specialist in modern and contemporary Arab art, previously served as founding director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha and held curatorial roles at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.

The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in New Delhi and Christie's London have announced a major institutional exhibition titled 'The Meeting Ground: Scenes from the KNMA Collection,' running from 16 July to 21 August 2026 at Christie's King Street. The show brings together modern and contemporary works alongside folk and indigenous art from South Asia, curated by Akansha Rastogi with a team of curators. It features artists such as M.F. Husain, S.H. Raza, Zarina Hashmi, and Jangarh Singh Shyam, and is part of KNMA's ongoing international programme.

Museo Jumex in Mexico City is staging two soccer-inspired exhibitions. "Football & Art: A Shared Emotion" runs through July 26, featuring works across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and video that explore football's cultural impact in Mexico and beyond. Highlights include Sofía Echeverri's textile commission about Mexico's 1971 Women's World Cup qualifiers and Tercerunquinto's sculptural installation using salvaged seats from Azteca Stadium. "Objects of Glory" opens June 10 in partnership with Qatar Museums and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, showcasing historic memorabilia such as Diego Maradona's match-worn jersey from the 1986 World Cup quarter-final and Pelé's boots from the 1970 World Cup.

Katara hosts exhibition on Compositions of Art

The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) in Doha, Qatar, opened an exhibition titled "Compositions from the Spirit of Art" by Qatari visual artist Dania Tariq, running until next Monday. The show features 34 artworks across four collections that explore human and national identity, geometric abstraction, and color harmony, using mixed media such as plaster, fabric, "sadu" weaving, burlap, metals, and beads. Tariq, who is hearing-impaired, transforms silence into a vibrant visual language, blending visual art with musical sensation.
