Couple to open art gallery with first exhibition in town

Retired businessman and South Norfolk councillor Brendon Bernard and his wife, painter Barbara Bernard, are opening a new art gallery on Broad Street in Bungay, England. Their debut exhibition, titled "A Flying Start," will run from June 8 to June 27, featuring six artists working in painting, original prints, and sculpture, including Jackie Bell, formerly of the now-closed Bell Gallery. The building, over a century old, was once used for storage by American forces during WWII and later as a carpentry workshop; East Suffolk Council approved its conversion into a gallery in March.

Malibu’s downtown park will become an art gallery this summer

Malibu’s downtown Legacy Park will transform into an open-air art gallery this summer through a series of free monthly Art Walk events. Organized by the Malibu Arts Association and hosted by the City of Malibu Arts Commission, the pop-up market runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on five Sundays (May 17, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, and Sept. 13), featuring local artists selling original works including oil paintings, watercolors, photography, sculpture, and prints inspired by the seaside city. 23rd Annual Student Art Show Celebrates Students’ Connection to the Santa Barbara Channel

On May 7, the community gathered at Jodi House Gallery for a reception and awards ceremony hosted by Santa Barbara Channelkeeper, celebrating the 23rd Annual Student Art Show. High school students from Carpinteria to Goleta submitted 120 pieces interpreting the Santa Barbara Channel, with 50 selected for the show. Awards were juried by Meagan Stirling, Associate Professor of Art at Westmont College. First place went to Aricin Marshall for his ceramic sculpture *Tide Bound – Hollister Ranch*, second to Josefa Olivio for *Channel Islands Fox*, and third to Jocabed Carranza for *After the Tide*. The Environmental Ethic Award was given to Maria Rojo for *Insufferable Freedom*, and the Juror’s Choice Award to Madeline Adler for *Sea Life vs. Pollution: The Ongoing Battle*. Honorable mentions included Sophia Lam, Alejandro Miranda, and Camila Sandoval.
