DePaul student creates micro-art gallery inside locker

DePaul University senior Christa Baclia-an has created a micro-art gallery inside a rented commuter locker (No. 121) in the Schmitt Academic Center, called “Locker Room.” The project rotates exhibitions every two weeks and is open to students and passersby. It was launched in response to the planned closure of the DePaul Art Museum (DPAM) due to budget cuts, and features work from both DePaul students and international artists, such as London-based Lee Tzur. The initiative is part of a growing DIY art scene on campus, with students curating shows and fostering community engagement in unconventional spaces.

Cerritos College Opens 2026 Student Art Exhibition with Night of Awards and Celebration

Cerritos College opened its 2026 annual Student Art Exhibition on April 23 at the Cerritos College Art Gallery, featuring over 150 student artworks selected by faculty from the college's art, design, and photography programs. The opening night included an award ceremony introduced by Gallery Director James Mac Devitt and a speech by Dr. Jose Fierro. Juror Kim Abeles, an established L.A. artist, presented five awards across seven categories including Ceramics/3D Design, Painting/Life Drawing, Freehand Drawing, Printmaking/2D Design, Graphic Design/Digital Illustration, Photography, and 3D Modeling/Motion Picture Editing. Faculty also gave honorable mentions in each category. Approximately $7,000 in awards was distributed, supported by the Associated Students of Cerritos College, the Cerritos Foundation, and donors including former student John DeMott.

Calling all ‘deadly’ creatives: Share your art this NAIDOC

Gunnedah Shire Council is calling for submissions for its annual NAIDOC Week Art Exhibition, which will celebrate 50 years of the 'Deadly' theme. Artists, hobbyists, schools, and community members are invited to submit works in any medium, including weaving, wood etching, metal work, dot painting, and decorated didgeridoos. A free workshop for First Nations women, led by emerging artist Hollie Crawford, will be held on 9 May to help participants create pieces for the exhibition. Entries are due from 22 to 28 June at the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery, with the exhibition running from 3 July to 7 August.

Goss Opera House unveils open, accessible Art Alley gallery

The Goss Opera House in Watertown has launched Art Alley, a new gallery space located in the hallway between the Goss and Mavericks. The grand opening took place on May 2 in partnership with the Downtown Collective's “ART of Downtown” event. The inaugural exhibit features local photographer Patrick “PJ” Anderson and his #JunkOnPavement series, titled “Taking Out the Trash: #JunkOnPavement,” which captures overlooked objects found in everyday spaces. The gallery will host rotating artwork by local and regional artists, with QR codes linking visitors directly to artists' online profiles.

Victoria artist organizes exhibition to benefit lesser-known charities

Victoria artist Tanya Bub is organizing a benefit exhibition titled "Wild Art for the Big of Heart" at the Victoria Gage Gallery from May 12 to 31, 2026. The show features 10 sculptures or installations, each representing a different local charity focused on people in need, animals, and the environment. Buyers can choose which charity receives 25% of the purchase price. Bub, who has been making art in Victoria since 2019, aims to highlight lesser-known organizations like Soap for Hope, and participating charities will host public events such as film screenings and talks.

Studio art capstone exhibition running through May 8

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History and Design is presenting the Spring 2026 Studio Art Capstone Exhibition, featuring work from 21 graduating studio art and graphic design students. The exhibition runs through May 8 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, with a closing reception on May 8 from 5-7 p.m. Students such as Anna Dirrim, Braylon Schroeder, Hannah Nigh, and Coralea Montague are showcasing pieces in mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and interdisciplinary art.

Wild Art Exhibition to showcase local creativity at Peterborough’s Railworld Wildlife Haven

A new community-led exhibition called Wild Art Exhibition 2026 will take place at Railworld Wildlife Haven in Peterborough from May 24 to 31. Organized by Community Clickers, Peterborough Together Project, and Peterborough Embroidery Society in collaboration with the venue, the show features work from local amateur artists, photographers, and makers, all inspired by the theme of nature and wildlife. The exhibition will open with a car show on May 24, presented with support from Abandoned City Camo Crew, blending art and automotive culture.
