Hidden Detroit: Art Galleries You May Have Overlooked

Jordan Bruns; "Big, Bold & Bright" at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, featuring large-scale abstract works; and an Asian-influenced exhibition by the Harmonious Art Group at the Benjamin Gaither Center celebrating Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The Spring Artisan Market on April 25 will offer handcrafted gifts from local makers.

This week's Metro Detroit events guide highlights several art exhibitions and cultural happenings from April 23–30. The Elaine L. Jacob Gallery at Wayne State University presents 'Keith Haring: Subway Drawings' (April 17–August 15), featuring 25 drawings created by Haring between 1980 and 1985. Wayne State also hosts its 2026 Undergraduate Art Exhibition (April 24–May 8) showcasing student work in fine arts, art history, and design, with an opening reception on April 24. That same evening, the Wayne State University Graduate Artist Coalition holds an open studio and gallery event with live music and refreshments. Tiny Gallery Trail in Elmwood opens this Saturday

The ElmArt Collective is launching the Tiny Gallery Trail in Elmwood this Saturday, April 25. The one-mile trail features five custom-built boxes hosting rotating exhibitions, with the inaugural show titled 'Elmwood!' featuring work by five local artists. The opening event includes a beer garden kickoff, an art bike parade, artist meet-and-greets, and family-friendly activities.

Troy artist's work to be displayed at Starworks

Artist Andy Gillis of Troy will present an exhibition titled "The art of dots in acrylic," featuring his intricate mandala paintings, at the Starworks Cafe and Taproom in Star. The show opens with a free reception on April 30 and will remain on view through July 30.

LRMA honors community-wide art contest winners

The Laurel Arts League announced the winners of its inaugural Community-Wide Art Contest during a ceremony at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. First-grader Libby Morgan from Laurel Christian School was among the honorees, celebrated for her first-place win.
