Top Five: April 9, 2026

Glasstire has released its weekly 'Top Five' list of essential art exhibitions across Texas for April 2026. The selection highlights a diverse range of regional talent, including a group show at the Rubin Center in El Paso focused on Chihuahuan Desert ecology, a 50-year retrospective of digital pioneers MANUAL at Moody Gallery in Houston, and a lifetime survey of Vietnam veteran and educator Hector Homero Rubio in Corpus Christi. Other featured shows include Freddy Ortega’s MFA thesis at TCU and Juan Pablo Hernandez’s multimedia glasswork.

Sanford doctor's travel photography displayed in airport art exhibition

Dr. David Clardy, a cardiologist at Sanford Health in Fargo, has his travel photography displayed above the baggage claim area at Hector International Airport. The exhibition, installed on June 17, 2025, pairs landscape and portrait images from his travels to Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Peru. Clardy, who began taking photography seriously in 1999 and resumed in 2016 after a break, participated in workshops with National Geographic photographers and now shares his work through the airport's ArtWORKS program, which places local art in public spaces.

Open Art Gallery coming to Saluda on May 1

Open Art Gallery will open its doors on May 1, 2026, at 32 West Main Street, Unit C, in Saluda. Owner Hector DelCampo, a silhouette artist who moved to the area three years ago, is launching the space to foster community and showcase local talent. The inaugural featured artist is 15-year-old Sila, whose vibrant works will be on display. The grand opening runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with refreshments and meet-the-artist opportunities.
