Sean Carney, a painter and longtime art teacher at Lawrence High School, discusses his artistic journey and evolving practice in a Q&A with Thomas Kelly. Carney, who works with water-based wood stains on wood panels, recently shifted his subject matter from cityscapes to iconic automobiles in his "Driven by Design" series, inspired by a visit to the Saratoga Automobile Museum. His work has been exhibited at Barsky Gallery in Hoboken and other venues, and he credits influences including professors Ray Statlander and Ben Jones, as well as artist Mel Leipzig.

See Norwich artist Dan Topalis' new exhibition at Dada Post

An exhibition featuring the work of Norwich artist Dan Topalis has opened at Dada Post in Norwich, Connecticut. Titled "Dan Topalis: Interchanges & Intersections," the show runs every Saturday through July 1 and presents two series: the "Crazy Clown Series" from 2022, depicting clowns performing feats of agility, and the ongoing "Dots" series of 2026, featuring colorful, two-color patterned compositions. Topalis, a Norwich native and 1973 graduate of Norwich Free Academy who also studied at the Philadelphia College of Art, works primarily in acrylic on canvas.

The 17th Annual Virginia Beach Surf Art Expo will take place from May 23 to May 25, 2026, along the boardwalk at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The event features over 90 regional artists from Maine to Florida, showcasing surf-themed art in various mediums including painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, and ceramics. The expo is partnered with the Coastal Edge Steel Pier Classic surfing competition, which includes a WSL World Tour Longboard event and a professional shortboard competition with over 300 athletes from more than a dozen countries and a $16,000 prize purse.
