What's open and closed on Labour Day in Ottawa?

Labour Day in Ottawa on September 1, 2025, will see most grocery stores, malls like Bayshore and Place d'Orléans, LCBO locations, and all Ottawa Public Library branches closed. However, several national museums including the National Gallery of Canada, along with the agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science, and war museums, will remain open. Some grocery stores such as Metro on Rideau and Bank streets, Whole Foods at Lansdowne Park, and select Beer Store locations will operate, while Rideau Centre and Tanger Outlets will be open with varying store hours. Municipal services like green bin and garbage collection are suspended for the day, and city beaches will no longer have lifeguards.

Meridian art gallery expands into Boise art scene

Idaho Art Gallery, owned by Nelli Garibyan, is expanding from Meridian into downtown Boise with a new 2,000-square-foot location at 702 W. Idaho Street. The space will feature large-scale works and immersive installations, with a rotating showroom debuting the theme “Birdsong & Battle Cries” featuring local artists Kirsten Furlong, Cate Bridgen, Diana Stetson, and Sarah Conti. A grand opening is scheduled for November 6.

From Creators to Curators: MHS students get hands-on museum training ahead of annual Festival of the Arts

AP Art students from Meridian High School participated in a professional curation and installation master class at the Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience (The MAEX). Led by curator Christina McField, the students transitioned from artists to curators, learning the technical and conceptual requirements for mounting a professional museum exhibition.
