PEG gallery opens with kaupapa of care and commitment

Peggy Robinson has opened a new contemporary art gallery called PEG on Cuba Street in Wellington, New Zealand. The gallery occupies a historic 1907 industrial building that was originally a mattress factory. Robinson, who has nearly a decade of experience in the arts, founded PEG with a kaupapa (Māori concept of principles) centered on presence, care, and deep commitment to artists. The inaugural exhibition features Reece King's show 'Halfway to the Splits', which explores repetition, labour, and process-based poetics developed during his Frances Hodgkins fellowship.

Kids Day: When Nature Becomes Art

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice offers a free weekly workshop series called "Kids Day" for children aged 4 to 10, held on Sundays at 3 pm. The upcoming session, "When Nature Becomes Art," introduces young participants to collage techniques inspired by Surrealist artists such as Eileen Agar and André Masson, who used natural materials like shells, sand, feathers, and plants. The program includes a brief guided tour of the museum followed by a hands-on art workshop, conducted in Italian with interpretation available upon request.

Matthew Hills, executive director of the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, gave local media a tour of the partially-completed facility on the city's north-side waterfront, confirming the opening has been delayed from 2025 to 2027. Inflation, supply-chain issues, and trade wars have driven the project cost to $74.7 million, with a $22.6 million funding shortfall. City council recently released $5 million to prevent a construction shutdown, and Hills said a phased opening in 2026 is under consideration. Current funding includes $37 million from the federal Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, $5.7 million from Ontario, $5.2 million from the city, and $4.9 million in private donations.
