The American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) on Manhattan's Upper West Side will temporarily close this summer for a major renovation project. The museum will shutter its current exhibition "Somewhere to Roost" on May 2 and close remaining galleries on May 26. The renovation, the largest in 30 years, will revitalize the museum shop, courtyard, office spaces, entry façade, and operations systems, with phased reopenings starting this fall and full completion expected next spring, timed around the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
The Longboat Key chapter of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc. has opened a two-month art exhibition at Plymouth Harbor featuring over 30 artists working in oil painting, pastels, photography, glasswork, sculpture, and creative writing. Notable participants include Miriam Cassell, who layers collages and paint to advocate for inclusion; Jo Jo Fusco, who contributed a large-scale oil painting inspired by Edward Hopper; and Medge Jaspan, who debuted a black-and-white piece titled 'Dec. 21' tied to personal milestones. The exhibition debuted on September 9, with Plymouth Harbor resident Joslyn Kirkegaard purchasing a painting by Barbara Jendrysik depicting the Sarasota skyline.
Felix Anderson-Goldsmith, a 17-year-old pencil artist from Timaru, New Zealand, is preparing for his first solo exhibition at the Red Bird Gallery in Timaru. The exhibition opens on January 9, 2026, and runs until February 3, featuring ten works including pencil realism pieces and two pop art paintings on skateboards. Anderson-Goldsmith previously gained recognition as a shortlisted entrant in the 2024 Parkin Drawing Prize, where he received a highly commended award. Gallery owner Polly Rowe offered him the show after being impressed by his sketches, and has guided him in developing a cohesive body of work.
