Boulder County art shows, gallery events this week

This week's Boulder County art scene features a wide array of exhibitions and gallery events across multiple venues. Art exhibits open in Earlville

The Earlville Opera House Art Galleries in Earlville, New York, will open the second round of 2026 visual artist exhibitions on Saturday, May 9, from 1 to 3 p.m. The series features three artists: Bruce E. Webster with his retrospective "A Legacy in Wood" showcasing over 40 years of fine wood furniture; Linda Kays-Biviano with "From Clay to Character: Featuring Woodland Spirits," hand-sculpted fantasy figures in polymer clay and resin; and Lawrence Kinney. Winners of the Leicester Open announced

The winners of the Leicester Open exhibition have been announced, with Simon Farrow winning the prestigious Attenborough Award for his drawing "Clock Tower: Heaven or Hell," which depicts Leicester's Clock Tower with a street preacher and passers-by. Farrow, an amateur artist from Leicester, was selected from over 1,000 entries across paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs. Other winners include Peter J Lester, Lisa Davies, Alexis Hutson, and several young artists in categories for ages 5-18. All winning works are on display at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery until January 30, 2026, with adult artworks available for purchase starting at £50.

Miniature art exhibit finds permanent home in downtown Provo

A miniature art exhibit called The Tiny Art Show, created by BYU alumna McKay Lenker Bayer in 2018, has found a permanent home in downtown Provo, Utah. The interactive exhibit is housed in a former stairwell between the Black Sheep Cafe and Rockwell Ice Cream on University Avenue, and is open every Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Visitors crawl inside to view tiny artworks, with the current installation featuring detailed insect paintings by local artist Nicole Parish, who uses specimens from her personal collection as reference. The gallery rotates exhibits monthly and offers tiny booklets explaining each piece.

Leslie Powell Gallery to open multiple art exhibitions in May

The Leslie Powell Gallery in Lawton, Oklahoma, will open two art exhibitions in May 2026. "Beauteous Maximus" features paintings by New Zealand-born Polynesian artist Tania Landers, whose work explores memory, identity, and generational storytelling through vibrant colors and collage. "Between the Front Door and the Kitchen Sink" showcases artwork by Texas artist Abigail Rainey, focusing on themes of home, inheritance, and the sacred within the mundane.
