Weekender: Student Art in Library; UC Arts Exhibition in Bay Area; Music; Square Dance

The UC Davis Library has unveiled new student-acquired artwork in its study rooms, aiming to transform traditionally drab academic spaces into vibrant environments through a student art competition. National Art Exhibition in Punta Gorda headlines 25 shows at SWFL art centers

Southwest Florida's art scene is bustling with 25 visual art exhibitions across more than a dozen art centers in February. The headline event is the 15th Biennial National Art Exhibition at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda, a prestigious juried competition for two-dimensional art. Other notable shows include Art Center Sarasota's centennial-celebrating Annual Juried Members Show, the 'Colors in Motion' exhibition at Venice Art Center, and a dual exhibition featuring artists Susan Fraley and Rosalie Mack.

Delta artists show unique flair

The Art Guild of the Delta Annual Showcase 2025 opened on November 13 at Los Medanos College's Library gallery, featuring works by local Delta-area artists. Curator Sarah Lee introduced the event, where artists including Marsha Mees, Rosalinda Grejsen, Rick Haley, Julee Richardson, Susan State, Carol Ligon, and Kathy Emerick presented and discussed their pieces, ranging from clay sculptures and mixed-media works to photography and jewelry. Highlights included Mees's Kintsugi-inspired mixed-media pieces, Richardson's Steampunk dolls and a ceramic commentary on gun violence, and Haley's serendipitous beach photograph.

Robbie Williams' songwriter to play at flower fair

Songwriter Guy Chambers, best known for his long creative partnership with Robbie Williams, will perform a piano recital at the Review of Sussex Arts (ROSA) Botanical Art Fair in Chichester, UK, from 1-4 May. The fair, held at West Dean Gardens, brings together over 100 artists and performers from across Europe, featuring a sculpture garden, contemporary floristry, and a botanical art exhibition curated by 18 members of The Society of Botanical Artists. Environmental organization Forests Without Frontiers will host an immersive "Listening to Nature" performance using headphones to amplify natural sounds.

‘Together with Art’ exhibit at Town Hall highlightsAsian American and Pacific Islander cultures

Tiburon Town Hall is hosting "Together with Art," a group exhibition celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) cultures. Running through June 30, the showcase features five Bay Area artists, including Santa Rosa photographer Glenna Yee, whose work focuses on themes of serendipity and juxtaposition. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the town’s third annual AAPI Heritage Festival in May.
