The more, the merrier: DPR Gallery newest creative space in area’s thriving art scene

DPR Gallery, a new contemporary art space, opened in downtown Lake Charles, Louisiana, with an inaugural exhibition titled "Rebirth" featuring works by internationally renowned artist Peregrine Honig. The gallery is owned by Paul Picheloup, alongside friends Derrick Guidry and Ryan Jett, and is named after their shared initials. Honig's exhibition explores femininity, identity, and cultural memory through classic fairy tales and folklore.

The Liceo Bafile in L’Aquila has established a permanent collection of contemporary art featuring over 60 site-specific works created through collaborations between professional artists and students. Initiated by artist and professor Licia Galizia following the devastating 2009 earthquake, the project integrates art into the educational environment as a tool for cultural rebirth. In 2026, the collection will expand further with seven new installations created by artists including Elena Bellantoni and Marco Nereo Rotelli in partnership with the Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila.

Around town: Art Garden reopens in new downtown gallery

Art Garden, a combination art gallery and plant shop in Asheville, North Carolina, reopens on May 7, 2025, at a new downtown location at 98 N. Lexington Ave. The business was displaced after its former home in Riverview Station was flooded by over 25 feet of water during Tropical Storm Helene in September 2024. The reopening includes a preview party for the ReRoot art exhibit, a fundraising gala, a theatre performance, and a Mother's Day plant sale, celebrating community support that helped rebuild the space.

Delta artists show unique flair

The Art Guild of the Delta Annual Showcase 2025 opened on November 13 at Los Medanos College's Library gallery, featuring works by local Delta-area artists. Curator Sarah Lee introduced the event, where artists including Marsha Mees, Rosalinda Grejsen, Rick Haley, Julee Richardson, Susan State, Carol Ligon, and Kathy Emerick presented and discussed their pieces, ranging from clay sculptures and mixed-media works to photography and jewelry. Highlights included Mees's Kintsugi-inspired mixed-media pieces, Richardson's Steampunk dolls and a ceramic commentary on gun violence, and Haley's serendipitous beach photograph.

Rebirth art exhibition celebrates spring and new beginnings

Heart Café and Church in Liverpool is hosting an art exhibition titled 'Rebirth' until May 3rd. Curated by café employee Emily Blackmore, the show features 25 works by 21 local artists, interpreting themes of spring and new beginnings. Seventh Circle, an independent art space in Birmingham's Digbeth district, has inaugurated its new, expanded location with an open-call exhibition titled "Renaissance." Featuring works by 40 local artists across various media—including sculpture, ceramics, and fine art—the show explores themes of rebirth and renewal. To support the local creative economy, the gallery introduced a dual-award system: a Director’s Choice Award granting a solo exhibition and a People’s Choice Award providing bespoke framing services.
