The 11th JIDAR Rabat Street Art Festival has transformed Morocco's capital into an open-air gallery, with artists from Ecuador, South Africa, Peru, Russia, and Morocco painting large-scale murals on buildings. Works include Oscar Medina's bird clutching the sun and moon, Keya Tama's lion with Arabic script, and Mohamed Roshdi's portrait of a woman holding fish. The festival runs until 27 April.
The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts in Valdosta hosted its 39th Annual Spring Into Art Gala on April 13, drawing hundreds of attendees. Over 150 regional artists submitted more than 300 original works for the region's most prominent art exhibition, which remains on display through June 10. Cash prizes totaling $6,000 were awarded across four categories, with Joe Morgan winning Best of Show for his painting "Lobster Lottery." The event recognizes local and regional artists across multiple categories, including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, with awards presented during a formal ceremony at the center.
Siobhán Parkinson, a local artist, sound therapist, and playwright from Laois, Ireland, launched her second solo art exhibition titled "Playing with Colour: From Dawn Til Dusk" at Mountmellick Library on May 5. The exhibition features 24 mixed-media works including drawings, paintings, and photographs, organized into three rooms representing dawn, noon, and dusk. The launch included a holistic sound healing session with instruments like sound bowls and a gong, guided meditation, and a celebration cake. Parkinson, a member of the Mountmellick Art Collective, debuted her first solo show at the same venue in February 2023.
