The Gainesville region is hosting several significant visual arts events this week, headlined by the Harn Museum of Art’s exhibition "Florida in the Frame." This expansive show features over 65 artists, including American masters Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent alongside Florida Highwaymen painters, exploring a century of the state’s evolving landscapes and culture. Additionally, the Gainesville Fine Arts Association is presenting "Song," a group exhibition of music-inspired local art, while the ninth annual Santa Fe Springs Plein Air Paintout invites the public to watch artists work live at O’Leno State Park.

Art Gallery Opens a Community and Medicine Garden

The Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) has launched a new Community and Medicine Garden, a collaborative initiative designed to enhance waterfront biodiversity and serve as a living classroom. The opening event features traditional seed songs by Kaniehtenhawi Deer, tobacco planting workshops led by Michele Dent, and activities focused on sustainable gardening. Artists-in-residence Carly Franklin and Kamaldeep Kaur are also utilizing the space to grow indigo and other plants for their research into natural pigments and textiles.

MixHaus Gallery opens new exhibit

MixHaus Gallery in Comfort, Texas, has opened a new exhibition titled "Songs of the Ocotillo," featuring a collaboration between local poet Lucy Griffith and Marfa-based mixed-media artist Darlene Marwitz. The show, which launched on April 10, combines Griffith's poetry with Marwitz's textured artworks to explore themes of the ocotillo plant and the landscape of the southern borderlands.
