‘Good for the soul’: Local art show opens at Oshawa art gallery tonight

The Oshawa Art Association (OAA) is hosting the opening reception and awards night for its 58th annual juried art exhibition tonight at The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, Ontario. The free event runs from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring live music by local singer David Saliba, attendance from local politicians, and a cash bar. The exhibition, which includes over 100 artworks selected from nearly 300 submissions, will remain on display until May 10. Categories include wildlife, people, abstracts, sculptures, and a youth category for artists aged 12 to 18, with $3,000 in total prize money awarded by jurors Hi-Sook Barker and Lucy Manley.

The Howick Art Group's Spring Festival Art Exhibition opened triumphantly at Howick Bowling Club, drawing over 100 attendees on Saturday evening. The show features 212 works by adult artists, plus student entries from local intermediate schools, with all pieces for sale. David Szeto won Best in Show for his painting "Beautiful Environment," which also took first in Landscapes. The exhibition runs daily until August 10, with free entry, and celebrates the group's 60th anniversary since its founding in February 1965.

Top student artists in NPC’s 40th annual High School Juried Art Show

Northland Pioneer College (NPC) celebrated the 40th annual High School Juried Art Show, awarding top honors to three student artists. Katrina Joe, a senior at Ganado High School, won Best of Show in painting for her work "Cupcakes." Ayla Curley, a senior at Winslow High School, took Best of Show in 3D art for "Rat," and Darla Nez, a senior at Chinle High School, won Best of Show in drawing for "Colorful Perspective." The exhibition was juried by NPC faculty members Magda Gluszek and Peterson Yazzie, and each winner received an art tuition scholarship to NPC for the 2026-27 academic year.
