Art in the Berkshires, founded in 2024 as an online resource, has opened a physical gallery and studio space at 8 Castle Street in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The venture is led by Shany Porras, an abstract painter and founder who serves as gallery director, aiming to make Berkshire creativity more accessible through artist directories, venue listings, and a weekly newsletter.
Simon Gee, a much-loved painter and lecturer who taught at Coventry Technical College for over 30 years, died in March 2025. A posthumous exhibition of his portraits, which he insisted on showing in pubs rather than galleries, is being held at Twisted Barrel Brewery in Coventry for one month. The show raises money for Myton Hospices and aims to reunite some of his subjects with their portraits. Gee was known for painting strangers he met in pubs and workmen in hi-vis jackets, and for his gregarious, kind personality.
Dovecote Street Arts in Amble, Northumberland, is launching a new exhibition featuring nearly 70 artworks by 47 local artists selected through an open call. Titled 'Amble, Northumberland, England', the show explores how national themes manifest in local communities, with works from artists including sculptor-painter duo Geoffrey and Sarah Bradford and award-winning painter Katherine Rousselange. The exhibition is supported by a £400 grant from the Alnmouth Arts Festival and opens to the public on May 23, 2026, coinciding with the Amble Puffin Festival, running until June 7.
