The project features works by a cancer survivor, using art as a medium to express her healing journey and share her experience with the community.
RiNo Art District in Denver is expanding its monthly First Friday art walk into a free summer festival series, beginning May 1, 2026, at RiNo ArtPark at Arkins Park. The inaugural event will run from 4 to 9 p.m., featuring live music by Denver group Chouette, food vendors such as TacoNation and Black Knife Bakery, art exhibitions, and hands-on workshops led by local artists including Courtney Ozaki-Durgin. Three festivals are planned for 2026, with additional dates on August 7 and September 4, plus a partnership with the Denver Fringe Festival on June 5.
The Santa Clarita Artists Association Gallery in Old Town Newhall is presenting "Go Figure," a month-long art exhibit running May 1-31 that explores the human form through a variety of styles and mediums. A parking structure at Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach is being transformed into a walkable public art gallery featuring murals by eleven artists. The project, organized by City of Hope Orange County and Lido Marina Village, centers on the theme “Hope is a Rising Tide.” Murals include depictions of City of Hope cancer patients and themes of science and innovation. The final mural, “Hope on the Horizon” by artist RFX1, measures 64 by 8 feet and is currently being completed. The space is free and open to the public.
Shippensburg University senior art students presented their capstone exhibition at the Huber Art Center, featuring works in printmaking, digital art, ceramics, and charcoal drawings. Artists Luke Lindvall, Gerald Pratt, Kaylee Will, Alayna Mandich, and Lily Bramucci explored themes including censorship, artificial intelligence, horror, and personal transformation. Lindvall pushed printmaking onto unconventional surfaces like skateboards and furniture, Pratt addressed over-censorship in politics, Will warned against over-reliance on technology and AI in raising children, Mandich used horror imagery to examine beauty, and Bramucci connected pit-fired ceramics to life choices and hardship.
Lisa Homann, an Associate Art & Art History Professor at UNC Charlotte, will participate in the 2024 Venice Biennale (May 9–Nov. 22) alongside West African Masquerade artist David Sanou. Homann co-curated the traveling exhibition "New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations," which opened in New Orleans and will conclude at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art. She was invited by Kevin Dumouchelle, the museum's main curator, to join the African Art in Venice Forum, a critical dialogue aimed at giving voice to contemporary African artists often excluded from mainstream contemporary art narratives. Homann's work with the Sanou family spans nearly two decades, beginning with David's father, Andre Sanou, in 2008.
The 53rd Riversdale Mixed Media Arts Exhibition will take place in June at the Riversdale Community Centre in New Zealand, featuring a $1,000 emerging artist award for artists aged 13-25 from Southland, Queenstown-Lakes, and West Otago. The award received a record 44 entries in 2025, with judges Marcella and Jim Geddes selecting the top 10 artworks for display on opening day. Last year's winner, 18-year-old Finn Young from Southland Boys' High School, won with a woodcut printmaking piece depicting native birds and the extinction of the huia.

Schreyer Honors College at Penn State has opened a new art gallery called “Illuminate” on the ground floor of Atherton Hall, featuring artwork from four Schreyer Scholars. The inaugural exhibition includes pieces by Olivia Knoechel, Jessica Matinchek, Paige Rishel, and Lisa Wang, selected by a panel of staff, students, and alumni artist Kaleigh Quinnan. The Chester County Art Association in West Chester hosted the Chester County High School Art Exhibition and PA 6th District Congressional Art Competition reception on April 15. The event featured nearly 500 student works including sculptures, oil paintings, colored pencil pieces, and photography, with awards presented for both competitions. Josiah Fung of Wilmington Friends School won first place in the congressional competition for his piece "Friends for Life," which will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The Katonah Museum of Art (KMA) will present Young Artists 2026, its annual exhibition of high school senior artwork, from May 3-24, 2026. Now in its 43rd year, the show features over 350 works from 40 high schools across New York and Connecticut. Participating students collaborate with museum professionals to plan and produce the exhibition, taking on roles as artists, curators, graphic designers, and installers. This year’s winning marketing image was created by Hailey Nazario of Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak.
The South Dakota Art Museum Guild will host a program on April 28, 2026, featuring Sioux Falls artist Rodger Ellingson. Residents of Surrey Heights Dementia Care Centre, part of CHD Living, visited a dementia-friendly art exhibition and sculpture trail hosted by King Edward School, Witley, in partnership with appART. Wellbeing Coordinator Karen accompanied residents on short walks to the school, where they engaged with artworks including Beatles-themed pieces and a tiger sculpture. One resident, Nick, was encouraged to apply to exhibit his own work at next year's event, while another resident, Karen, who had previously declined outings, participated calmly and enthusiastically.
Marquette University held its fourth annual Student Art Exhibition on April 23, 2026, at the Lemonis Center for Student Success, featuring ten student artists each awarded a $500 stipend to create works around themes such as “Culture & Career,” “Defining Success,” “Belonging at Marquette,” and “Expanding Horizons.” The event, organized by Career Center director Courtney Hanson, included pieces by Jessica Wrobel and Salo Aristizabal, among others, and was sponsored by the Career Center, the Division of Belonging and Student Affairs, the Lemonis Center, Raynor Library, and Enterprise Mobility.
The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum in Hanoi is hosting "Cuộc Chơi Với Lá (A Game with Leaves)," an exhibition showcasing over six decades of work by self-taught Vietnamese artist Tạ Hải. The show features dozens of artworks selected from more than 500 pieces he has created entirely from natural materials, primarily fallen leaves, since his first work in 1965. Hải, who works outside formal artistic traditions, transforms leaves into landscapes depicting rivers, rooftops, and village paths, driven by a philosophy that sees fallen leaves as enduring symbols of life rather than discarded remnants.
The Los Alamos Arts Council and the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico present 'Let’s Go Fly A Kite', a paint-out and exhibition opening Friday, May 1 at the Fuller Lodge Art Center Gallery. The show features works created by 28 local and regional artists who painted outdoors at the 30th Annual Kite Festival and around the community, with many pieces depicting kites and their fliers at Overlook Park. Cairo-based artist Mariem Akmal opened her second solo exhibition, 'Visual Diaries', at Samak Laban Creative Studio in Downtown Cairo. The show features 16 works in oil, acrylics, pastels, spray paint, and glass, capturing emotional snapshots from the past four years of her life, including her graduation from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Zamalek. The Providence Chalk Art Festival will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Providence Rink in Rhode Island. For one day, the rink's concrete surface becomes an open-air gallery where artists of all ages and skill levels create chalk artworks in designated squares. The Great Neck Library will host a summer sculpture exhibition titled "Swim or Fly" featuring works by local artist Dr. Suzanne Posner from May 1 through July 31 at the Main Library. The Owatonna Arts Center (OAC) is calling for submissions for its 73rd annual Steele County Arts Exhibition, with the submission period open through April 30 and the exhibition running from May 3 to May 31. Artistic Director Silvan Durban, who has been with the center for 48 years, notes that all forms of physical media are accepted and there is no specified theme, encouraging broad participation from both returning and new artists. The exhibition continues a local tradition that began in the 1930s with the Owatonna Arts Project supported by the University of Minnesota and the Carnegie Foundation.
The Seoul Museum of Craft Art opens two special exhibitions on Tuesday, both centered on the Korean Empire (1897-1910), a brief period when Korea sought to modernize through craft and industrial innovation. The larger exhibition, “The Hybrid,” marks 140 years of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, gathering 24 objects from European collections—23 from France and one from Germany—some not displayed in Korea in over 120 years.
