First Look: Artist Vicki Lee’s New Gallery in Potts Point

Sydney-based artist Vicki Lee is opening a new gallery at 16-18 Bayswater Road in Potts Point on September 20, following a previous space in Surry Hills. The 260-square-metre venue spans two levels and features a multi-sensory exhibition titled *Inner Peace, Dinner Please*, which includes a sound-healing listening space with yoga mats, a confessional booth with a shredder for discarding written sins, a light installation, and inhalers scented with frankincense. Lee’s husband, photographer Ted O’Donnell, also exhibits collaborative floral works, and DJ/producer Stu Turner will perform live sets on Saturdays.

AOY Art Center announces award winners of the 14th Annual Juried Show

AOY Art Center announced the award winners of its 14th Annual Juried Show, with David Orban taking first place for his oil on cradled wood panel, “Bi-plane and Blue Truck in Red.” Juror Amanda C. Burdan, senior curator at the Brandywine Museum, selected the piece for its surreal use of red. Second place went to Jean Burdick for “Silverton,” a silkscreen on vellum, and third place to Darlene Decker for “For the Monarchs,” an oil painting. The Frumi Cohen Memorial Award was presented to Cathy Hanville for her photograph “What’s for Dinner,” and honorable mentions were awarded to Scott Hoerl and Barbara Kaiser. Conroe artist debuts paintings containing Titanic coal at anniversary exhibition

Conroe-based artist Dirk Strangely is set to debut a new series of portraits titled "Souls of the Titanic" during a commemorative exhibition and dinner in Texas. The artworks are created using a unique process the artist calls "Artifactism," which incorporates authenticated coal recovered from the Titanic wreckage in 1994. By grinding the coal into a pigment through levigation, Strangely has produced watercolor paintings of notable figures such as Captain Edward John Smith and Molly Brown, accented with 24k gold leaf and 1912-era paper.

Open Doors Youth Service Celebrates 25 Years With Trans Youth Art Exhibition

Open Doors Youth Service in Brisbane is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a trans youth art exhibition titled "Shimmer," created in collaboration with artist Gerwyn Davies, Museum of Brisbane, MELT Festival, and Brisbane Powerhouse. Twelve trans and gender diverse young people worked with Davies to produce artworks now on display at the Museum of Brisbane until April. The organization is also hosting a fundraising gala dinner inside the exhibition space to support its ongoing services for LGBTQIA+ youth in Queensland.
