SOLO CSV, a new art venue in Madrid, Spain, has opened as part of the international SOLO arts project led by Ana Gervás and David Cantolla. The space, located near Parque del Oeste, was transformed from a 4,000-square-meter former printworks by Spanish architecture firm Estudio Herreros into an unconventional art labyrinth. Its inaugural exhibition at the Bowman Hal gallery featured William Mackinnon, followed by Aaron Johnson's current show 'WE ALL SHINE ON.' The venue also houses the SOLO arts incubator, including the ONKAOS digital arts initiative, a conservation lab, and the newly announced Movimiento 37 program.
The Fairfield University Art Museum has announced its 2025-26 exhibition season, featuring three shows tied to the United States semiquincentennial. Two exhibitions open in fall 2025: "Stitching Time: Social Justice Collaboration Quilts Project" and "Give Me Life: CPA Prison Arts Program," showcasing art by incarcerated individuals from Louisiana State Penitentiary and York Correctional Institution; and "Monuments: Commemoration and Controversy," organized by The New York Historical, examining public monuments as sites of debate over national identity and race. In spring 2026, the museum will present "For Which it Stands…," curated by Executive Director Carey Mack Weber, focusing on depictions of the American flag across the last century.
Artist Golnar Adili presents a solo exhibition at Smack Mellon in New York, centered on her family's archive of letters. The show features large-scale text-based sculptures and installations, such as 'Ye Harvest From the Eleven-Page Letter–Installation,' which transforms Persian script from her father's letters into architectural forms, alongside new plaster casts of her body. These works explore the aftermath of her parents' separation due to political exile following the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Photographer Jon McCormack, who grew up in the Australian Outback and has traveled to all seven continents, has a new book titled "Patterns: Art of the Natural World," forthcoming from Damiani Books. The project emerged during the pandemic when limited travel led him to revisit local spots and develop a patient, attentive approach to capturing nature's hidden harmony and symmetry. The book features 90 images ranging from microscopic crystals to aerial views of flamingos in Kenya, along with text contributions from fellow photographers and conservationists.
A new project led by master craftsman Thomas Keyes aims to recreate medieval vellum-making techniques to test theories about the origin of the Book of Kells. Keyes will build a replica of a washing tank found at the Scottish monastery of Portmahomack and use historically accurate methods, including potentially using seaweed-based lye, to produce vellum. This experimental archaeology seeks to determine if the manuscript's unique physical characteristics match the production methods used at Portmahomack.
City Hall in New York City will mark the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks with an art exhibition organized by former NYPD officer Paul McCormack, who lost most of his sight due to chemicals at the cleanup site, and his wife Nicola McClean, a photographer. Their nonprofit, Ground Zero 360, is showcasing more than 30 works from a collection of over 120 pieces created by more than 60 international artists for the 10-year anniversary in 2011. The exhibition includes photographs, drawings, paintings, and mixed media, and features a portrait of Moira Smith, the only female NYPD officer killed on 9/11. The display will be open for two months starting Monday.
The Bailey Art Gallery in Hobe Sound, Florida, will open a new exhibition on April 24 featuring works by local painter Dan Mackin and photographer M.E. Gruber. Mackin’s highly stylized paintings—created with airbrush and traditional techniques—depict idyllic coastal scenes on canvas, navigation maps, surfboards, and a guitar, and include collaborations with Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. Gruber’s mid-century Kodachrome transparencies, drawn from an archive of over 5,000 images, document the emerging surf culture of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. The exhibition will display 50 full-frame prints from this collection.
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls is hosting its annual Juried Student Art Exhibition from February 23 to March 27 at the Kleinpell Fine Arts Gallery. The free exhibition features works by UWRF students, with a reception and award ceremony scheduled for February 24. The juror for the exhibition is artist Mackenzie Serwa.
The Nambucca Valley Women’s Business Network (NVWBN) has issued a call for entries for its fourth annual 'Women in Art' exhibition, scheduled to open at the Matilda Street Gallery in Macksville on May 16. Local female artists from the Nambucca, Macleay, Hastings, and Bellinger valleys are invited to submit expressions of interest by May 7 to participate in the showcase, which featured nearly 100 works from 44 artists in its previous iteration.
The Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas, has announced a solo exhibition of sculptor Ken Womack titled “GIANT,” running from June 11 to September 13, 2026. The show will feature 23 large-scale works, including his signature “Texas Toast” sculpture and the interactive “Brolaroid” camera. The exhibition marks Womack’s first solo museum show and serves as a five-year retrospective of his pop-culture-influenced Americana works.
Cumbria's largest museum, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery Trust in Carlisle, has appointed six new trustees to its board, expanding the total to 15 members. The new trustees include Lord Richard Inglewood, a former government minister; Lisa Middleton, head of marketing at National Museums Liverpool; Joanne Orr, former director of Tullie and ex-chief executive of Museums Galleries Scotland; Malcolm Rogers, a banking and finance specialist; Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross; and John Stevenson, a former MP for Carlisle. The appointments were announced by Tullie chair Andrew Smith and director Andrew Mackay.
Theresa-Anne Mackintosh’s solo exhibition, "Now is not Forever," recently debuted at the Wits Art Museum (WAM), featuring a provocative blend of older paintings and new sculptures. The show centers on anthropomorphic figures and the erasure of senses, notably in the "hear no evil, see no evil, do no evil" series, where body parts are painted over to symbolize the avoidance of moral decay. These works, alongside vivid sculptures representing the artist's alter egos, challenge viewers to look past aesthetic surfaces to confront the inherent chaos and dysfunction of contemporary society.
Third City Studio, an art gallery, studio, classroom, and event space, will open in October 2025 at 5538 W. North Avenue in Austin, Chicago, as the first phase of the North Austin Arts District. Next door, Third City Cafe is set to open in early 2026. The projects are spearheaded by Jon Womack of Third City Properties, in partnership with community leaders including Vanessa Stokes of Outwest Gallery & Cafe. The studio will highlight West Side artists, offer artists-in-residency programs, and partner with after-school programs. Executive director Sid Zalani is organizing the inaugural exhibition, accepting submissions through September 15.
