Iowa Art Quilters Association and Fiber Artists exhibit opens May 1

The Fairfield Art Association is opening a new exhibition titled "Iowa Art Quilters and Fiber Artists" on May 1st at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. The show features eight recognized Iowa artists—Karen Anne Babcock Grimes, Sue Kluber, Judy Ludwick, Wendy Read, Barbara Riggs, Kathryn Roe, Jean Taft, and Patricia Weber—displaying up to 50 original art quilt works in various sizes and styles, many of which are available for purchase. A reception for the artists and guests will be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Cultural Observatory of Canton Ticino has published a study on cultural observatories worldwide, including a map and list of surveyed organizations. The analysis reveals that cultural observatories are not a global phenomenon but are concentrated mainly in Europe and South America, with occasional presence in North America (especially Canada and Hispanic-oriented organizations in the US). Africa, Asia, and Oceania are almost entirely absent from the map. The study also highlights a high rate of inactive observatories: among the top 10 countries by active observatories, only Germany shows an effective activity ratio. Spain has 26 active observatories out of about 45 total, while Italy has 11 active out of over 20 inactive. The research defines observatories as non-profit organizations that combine cultural and statistical expertise to deepen and transfer knowledge about the cultural sector, and classifies as inactive those with no recent activity on web or social channels.

Albany Center Gallery seeks artists, vendors for Summer Art Fest

Albany Center Gallery is seeking artists and vendors for its third annual Summer Art Fest, a free outdoor art festival taking place July 18 at Quackenbush Square and Clinton Market Collective in downtown Albany. The event features a curated pop-up gallery, a new vendor market, a kids' art corner, interactive activities, and live artmaking. Submissions are free, with a deadline of June 10, and guidelines are available on the gallery's website. Last year's festival drew over 1,000 attendees from the Capital Region.

Western Spirit Museum highlights student artists during Youth Art Month exhibit

Western Spirit Museum, Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, partnered with the Arizona Art Education Association to present a Youth Art Month exhibition from March 15 to March 28, 2025. The show featured 109 original works by students in kindergarten through 12th grade from 22 schools across Arizona, spanning multiple mediums and styles. The exhibit concluded with a student artist reception on March 28, drawing families, educators, and community members. Teachers submitted student artwork, which was reviewed and selected by the Arizona Art Education Association Youth Art Month board.

Call for artists issued for Laredo anniversary exhibit

A call for artists has been issued for a commemorative exhibition celebrating Laredo's 271st anniversary. The Mexican Cultural Institute in Laredo, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico, the Webb County Heritage Foundation, and the city of Laredo, invites local and regional artists to submit original artwork reflecting the city's identity. Submissions will be accepted May 4-8 at the Consulate General of Mexico, with selected works displayed May 15 through June 5 at the Mexican Cultural Institute. The exhibit will focus on five themes: history, culture, people, landscapes, and heritage.

A talented artist has demonstrated an extraordinary technique by drawing an intricate Jiangnan water town scene using both hands simultaneously. The performance was captured and shared by the People's Daily App, with production credits to Zhu Yurou and intern Zhang Jingxuan, and web editing by Zhang Kaiwei and Hongyu.
