Hirshhorn Museum Director Melissa Chiu Leaves for Guggenheim, Another Smithsonian Departure

The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, Connecticut, has announced a new recurring exhibition series called the Aldrich Decennial, which will take place every ten years. The inaugural edition, titled “I am what is around me,” runs from June 7, 2026, to January 10, 2027, and features 40 artists living and working in Connecticut who have not previously exhibited in the state. Organized by chief curator Amy Smith-Stewart and curatorial and publications manager Caitlin Monachino, the survey spans the museum’s entire campus and includes high-profile names such as Dominic Chambers, Tammy Nguyen, Em Rooney, Aki Sasamoto, and Julia Wachtel, with artists ranging in age from Lucy Sallick (born 1937) to Remy Sosa (born 1995).

Liu Ding and Carol Yinghua Lu to curate 2027 Istanbul Biennial

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (ISKV) has announced that Liu Ding and Carol Yinghua Lu will curate the 2027 Istanbul Biennial. Liu Ding is a Beijing-based artist and curator who has participated in numerous international biennials and taught at NABA Milan, while Carol Yinghua Lu is an art historian and director of the Inside-Out Art Museum in Beijing, with a background at OCAT Shenzhen, Museion Bolzano, and Asia Art Archive. The pair, who have collaborated since 2007, most recently served as artistic directors of the 2024 Yokohama Triennale. The 19th edition of the Istanbul Biennial is scheduled for 18 September to 14 November 2027.

Mikala Tai has been appointed curator of the tenth TarraWarra Biennial, scheduled to run from July 31 to November 14, 2027, at the TarraWarra Museum of Art in Healesville, Australia. Tai is a Sydney-based curator, writer, and academic specializing in contemporary Australian and Asian art.

Celebrating a decade of expression at Sandra Art4All studio

Sandra Art4All, an art studio in Acol, Kent, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The studio provides a supportive platform for deaf, autistic, and neurodivergent artists with learning disabilities to develop personal artwork, promoting expression and creativity. It was founded after the closure of the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate and has become a cornerstone of the local arts community.

Torbay’s art scene swipes right on creativity in bold new exhibition

A new exhibition titled SwipeRight4Art has opened at Artizan Gallery in Torquay, running until 4 May. Inspired by dating apps, the show invites visitors to engage with artworks as if swiping through profiles, using “matchmaker cards” to indicate which pieces they would “pass” or “match” with. The exhibition is the first project from Sienna Editions, a publishing and art venture co-founded by charcoal artist Hannah Leadbetter and landscape photographer Kevin Cowell, with backing from local studio Print2Wall and funding from Innovate UK. It features works by local artists including Szabotage, David Norman, Francesca Lawrence, Rosie Rowell, Peter Blakesley, and Sally Loxton, alongside pieces by the founders.

Artists from Sandra Art4All Studio set to exhibit in Proud 2 Create Summer Show in Margate

The Sandra Art4All Art Studio, founded by Sandra Hampton in 2016, is presenting its sixth annual Proud 2 Create summer show at The Margate School, opening August 13. The exhibition features 12 local artists with learning impairments and disabilities, including Autism, Charge Syndrome, Hearing Impairment, and Cerebral Palsy, showcasing over 180 original artworks in various media such as drawings, paintings, and photographs. The artists range in age from 13 to 54, and the opening event runs from 4pm to 8pm with many artists in attendance.
