The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture

Asia Society Texas (AST) in Houston announces its upcoming exhibition "The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture," opening October 17, 2025, and running through March 15, 2026. The show features 25 artists from Japan, Brazil, China, Mexico, Côte d'Ivoire, Texas, and beyond, exploring the influence of Japanese animation on contemporary art. Highlights include works by Yoshitaka Amano, Gao Hang, and Monsieur Zohore, with nods to classics like Astro Boy, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, and an immersive homage to Pikachu.

A Testimony to Survival and Hope Amid Chaos and Destruction

Vian Sora's first solo museum exhibition in the United States, 'Outerworlds,' is on view at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art (SBMA) through September 7. The exhibition features vibrant, layered abstract paintings that the artist describes as deeply personal, including 'Forest Remains,' a 2023 SBMA acquisition that she considers a self-portrait about migration and assimilation. Sora, born in Baghdad and a survivor of the Iran–Iraq War, Gulf War, and the 2003 invasion, discussed her work in a conversation with SBMA Chief Curator James Glisson, explaining how a 2015 hysterectomy led to a dramatic shift in her style toward bold, colorful compositions. The show will travel to the Speed Art Museum in Louisville and the Asia Society Texas Center after its Santa Barbara run.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Names Katherine Anne Paul as the Newly Appointed Stella Kramrisch Curator of Indian and Himalayan Art

The Philadelphia Museum of Art has appointed Katherine Anne Paul as the Stella Kramrisch Curator of Indian and Himalayan Art, a role named after the pioneering scholar and curator. Paul previously served as Assistant and Associate Curator of Indian and Himalayan Art at the PMA from 2002 to 2008, and most recently held the Virginia and William M. Spencer III Curator of Asian Art position at the Birmingham Museum of Art, where she also served as Lead Curator. She holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has curated notable exhibitions including "Silver & Ceremony from Southern Asia 1830–1930" and "Expanding Darshan: Manjari Sharma, To See and Be Seen."
