White Cube has announced the representation of Navajo artist Emmi Whitehorse, who will be represented alongside her New York gallery, Garth Greenan. The partnership follows Whitehorse’s successful solo exhibition at White Cube’s Paris space and her inclusion in the 2024 Venice Biennale. The gallery plans to debut new work, including the painting "Father Sky meets Mother Earth," at its Art Basel Hong Kong booth later this month.
The Hopi-Tewa artist Nampeyo (1859–1942) is being celebrated as a foundational figure in modern ceramics for her role in the Sikyátki Revival. By studying ancestral pottery shards from archaeological excavations, Nampeyo revitalized centuries-old techniques and motifs, transforming Pueblo pottery into a globally recognized art form. Her career spanned from selling works at regional trading posts to becoming a celebrated figure who demonstrated her craft at the Grand Canyon and exhibited at major fairs in Chicago.
The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) has opened "Mary Sully: Native Modern," a solo exhibition featuring the intricate "personality prints" of Yankton Dakota artist Mary Sully (born Susan Mabel Deloria). The show includes 18 triptychs, drawings, memorabilia, and a film clip, highlighting her abstract vertical designs that blend Dakota heritage with 1920s–1940s celebrity culture. Sully, who died in obscurity over 60 years ago, was rediscovered by her great-nephew, Harvard professor Philip Deloria, after he found her work in a basement. Her art was previously included in the groundbreaking exhibition "Hearts of Our People" at Mia, and she also had a solo show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2024.
