This month’s blockbuster auctions in New York could bring upwards of $2.5bn

This month's May auctions in New York are projected to generate between $1.8 billion and $2.6 billion across Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips, and Bonhams. Major highlights include the estates of legendary dealers Marian Goodman and Robert Mnuchin, with top lots such as Gerhard Richter's *Kerze (Candle)* (est. $35m–$50m) at Christie's and Mark Rothko's *Brown and Blacks in Reds* (est. $70m–$100m) at Sotheby's. Additional offerings include works from the late S.I. Newhouse collection, featuring Jackson Pollock's *Number 7A* and Constantin Brâncuși's *Danaïde*, each estimated at $100m, as well as pieces from the collections of Agnes Gund and Marilyn Arison.

Getty’s Black Visual Arts Archives receives additional $1.8m in funding

The Getty Foundation has awarded an additional $1.8 million to its Black Visual Arts Archives initiative, bringing total funding to $4.5 million across 20 awards. The program supports institutions in processing, digitizing, preserving, and activating archival collections related to Black artists and arts organizations in the US. Grantees include Afro Charities, the Auburn Avenue Research Library, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Charles H. Wright Museum, Morgan State University, the South Side Community Art Center, the University of Chicago’s South Side Home Movie Project, and the David C. Driskell Center. Notable discoveries include footage of the original Wall of Respect mural from the South Side Home Movie Project.

Jolkonya’s Mother’s Day special exhibition opens in Dhaka

Jolkonya, a women's art organization, has opened a six-day group exhibition titled "Every Woman is a Mother" at Safiuddin Shilpalay in Dhaka to celebrate Mother's Day. The show features 35 artworks by 12 artists using watercolor, acrylic, and coffee-based mediums, and was inaugurated by painter-sculptor Ivy Zaman and singer Mehreen. The City Bank PLC is the title sponsor, and artist Ashok Karmaker curated the exhibition.

Limerick Museum Sybil Connolly exhibition opens until July 31

Limerick Museum has opened 'Dressed to Impress: Sybil Connolly and the Art of Irish Elegance', an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Sybil Connolly, one of Ireland's most renowned fashion designers. Curated by Dr. Zara Power, the show features rarely seen garments, including a piece worn by Máirín Lynch, as well as maquettes, sketches, and interior design objects on loan from the Hunt Museum and Cork Public Museum. The exhibition runs until July 31, 2026, and admission is free.
