The Metropolitan Museum of Art has partnered with Lego to release a $249.99 building set recreating Claude Monet's 1899 painting 'Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies.' The kit, containing 3,179 pieces, is the most expensive in Lego's Art series and launches March 4. The museum is also releasing a podcast hosted by curator Alison Hokanson to accompany the set.
Michigan State University's Broad Art Museum is presenting "Nabil Kanso: Echoes of War," the first Michigan exhibition of the Lebanese-American artist's work. On view through June 29, the show spans over four decades of Kanso's large-scale, expressive paintings that document the human toll of war, including works addressing the Lebanese Civil War, the Gulf War, and the Syrian conflict. Curated by Rachel Winter in collaboration with the Nabil Kanso Estate and professor Salah Hassan, the exhibition features "Scorching Sparks" (1980s), a painting never before publicly exhibited. Winter first encountered Kanso's work in 2022 and worked with his family to bring the show to fruition, timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Lebanese Civil War and Arab American Heritage Month.
The Daegu Kansong Art Museum has launched a special exhibition titled "Chusa's Painting Lessons" to mark the 240th anniversary of the birth of Kim Jeong-hui, the legendary Joseon Dynasty scholar and artist. While most retrospectives of Kim's work focus on his revolutionary calligraphy and academic scholarship, this showcase specifically highlights his paintings and his pedagogical influence on his students. A centerpiece of the exhibition is the "Yerim Gapeulrok," a document that illustrates the artistic exchanges and critiques shared between the master and his disciples.
The Kansong Art Museum in Seoul has launched a special exhibition titled "Cultural Defense of the Nation: The Spirit of Our People Preserved Through Faith," showcasing 46 significant artifacts reclaimed by collector Chun Hyung-pil during the Japanese colonial period. The centerpiece of the show is a rare 18th-century white porcelain bottle decorated with underglaze blue, iron-red, and copper-red, which Chun famously acquired at the Gyeongseong Art Club auction in 1936. He outbid a prominent Japanese dealer with a record-breaking bid of 14,580 won—a sum equivalent to the price of 15 houses at the time—to prevent the treasure from leaving Korea.
