An eerie Renaissance masterpiece, fresh from a four-year restoration process, goes on show in Berlin

Berlin's Gemäldegalerie has completed a four-year restoration of Vittore Carpaccio's painting "The Preparation of Christ's Tomb" (around 1505-20), removing decades of dirt and discolored varnish. The cleaned work will debut in a small exhibition titled "Tribute to Vittore Carpaccio" running from 20 November to 6 April 2026, alongside a dozen other works from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin's holdings.
