castle where renoir summered hits market 2650723

The Château de Wargemont, a 19th-century seaside castle in Normandy where Pierre-Auguste Renoir summered and painted, has been listed for sale by Sotheby’s International Realty for €4 million ($4.5 million). The 17-room property, set on 25 acres, is the last great Impressionist site still in private hands and retains original features including Renoir’s dining room mural The Two Hunts, the only in-situ decor by an Impressionist. Renoir was invited there by diplomat and banker Paul Bérard, and the estate appears in several of his works, including Les rosiers à Wargemont (1879), which sold for $7.5 million at Sotheby’s in 2004.

Rachel Whiteread in a West Sussex woodland: UK’s Goodwood Art Foundation opens

The Goodwood Art Foundation, a new non-profit contemporary art center, has opened on the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, UK, launched by Charles Richmond, 11th Duke of Richmond. The 70-acre site, reimagined by landscape designer Dan Pearson, features refurbished pavilions, a new restaurant by Studio Downie Architects, and a launch season curated by Ann Gallagher. The headline exhibition includes sculptures and photography by Turner Prize-winning artist Rachel Whiteread, alongside works by Rose Wylie, Veronica Ryan, Susan Philipsz, Amie Siegel, Lubna Chowdhary, Isamu Noguchi, and Hélio Oiticica. The foundation opened on 31 May.

Art Fund launches UK-wide touring programme

Art Fund has launched a UK-wide touring programme called Going Places, backed by £5.36 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Julia Rausing Trust. The first exhibition, *Making Her Mark: A Celebration of Women in Art*, opened at Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance, featuring over 60 works from three museum collections alongside community responses. 19 early-career artists, curators and students to benefit from professional development opportunity at Wales in Venice

The Arts Council of Wales has announced a 19-strong team of early-career artists, curators, and students who will travel to Venice this summer to support Wales' presence at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, running from May 9 to November 22, 2026. As part of the Invigilator+ programme, participants will spend at least one month in Venice acting as ambassadors for the Wales in Venice exhibition, an official collateral event. The exhibition, titled Sownd, is led by artists Manon Awst and Dylan Huw, jointly organized by Oriel Myrddin in Carmarthen and Oriel Davies in Newtown, with Steffan Jones-Hughes as Curator and Catherine Spring as Exhibition Project Director. The invigilators include Lily Tonkin Wells, Robert Oros, Ophelia dos Santos, Grace Springer, Cerian Wilshire Davies, Megan Evans, Howl Hubbard, Temeka Davies, Llyr Evans, Chloe Goodwin, Abby Pouslon, and Niamh O'Dobhain, while student team members come from Cardiff Metropolitan University, University of Wales Trinity St David, Wrexham University, and Aberystwyth University.
