London’s Courtauld Gallery will open two new contemporary art galleries at its Somerset House campus, funded by a £10 million ($13.8 million) gift from the Blavatnik Family Foundation. The top-floor spaces, originally built as a display area for the Royal Society in the 18th century, are expected to debut in 2029. The donation brings the foundation’s total support for the Courtauld to £20 million ($27.5 million), following earlier backing for the museum’s 2021 renovation. The new galleries will be programmed in part by students in the Courtauld’s curating master’s program and will host exhibitions connecting historical and contemporary art.

Young students from Kent Talents Art Studio in Broadstairs receive top honours for miniature works

Young students from Kent Talents Art Studio in Broadstairs have won top honors at the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (RMS) Annual Exhibition for the third consecutive year. Emilia Kalnikaite, age 17, won first prize in the Young Artist Award category for her miniature painting “Ladybird,” while Maria Belousova, age 14, received the President’s Special Award for her bone china sculpture “Creature of No Ocean.” The exhibition took place from 18–22 November at Bankside Gallery in London, featuring works from leading miniature artists and emerging talents worldwide.

Broadstairs art studio youngsters have multiple miniature paintings accepted for prestigious exhibition

Ten miniature paintings by young artists aged 14 to 19 from Kent Talents Art Studio in Broadstairs have been accepted into the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Annual Exhibition. Additionally, eight miniature artworks and two large paintings by the studio's tutor, award-winning artist Lana Arkhi, were also selected. The 100% acceptance rate for the students' entries, alongside the tutor's multiple successes, marks a historic achievement for the studio.

Exeter artists turn away from traditional landscapes in bold new exhibition

A new exhibition titled 'Not A Pretty Landscape' opens at Kaleider Studios in Exeter from January 31 to February 1, featuring 15 artists who present contemporary and unconventional views of the South West, deliberately avoiding traditional coastal and rural landscapes. Curated by Exeter-based artist Claire Le Day, the show emerged from an open call with no rules or experience requirements, only the condition that no pretty landscapes be submitted. Artists keep 100% of their profits, and most will be present to meet visitors and manage sales. Featured artists include Jo Beer, whose portraits have been recognized by the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
