Toyota Tsusho Corporation and its subsidiary CFAO SAS have announced the five inaugural winners of the Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award. Zimbabwean mixed-media artist Moffat Takadiwa received the Grand Prize, while Gosette Lubondo and Unathi Mkonto were honored with Distinguished Awards. The selection process involved 35 international art professionals who nominated 100 artists, eventually narrowing the field to 12 finalists before selecting the five winners across various categories including painting and photography.

The competition features a diverse range of winning photographs, including conceptual self-portraiture by Brooke Shaden, a street scene at the Benin-Togo border by France Leclerc, a train sleeping in Tunisia by Javier Arcenillas, freedivers with sperm whales by Khaichuin Sim, and young monks playing football in the Himalayas by Andrew Newey. Winners receive $5,000 in cash prizes.

The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin has announced plans to repatriate hundreds of human skulls to West African nations following a multi-year provenance investigation. The research identified the origins of 574 skulls, with 336 linked to present-day Cameroon, 151 to Togo, 23 to Ghana, and one to Nigeria, while 63 could not be precisely located. The skulls were part of a historical anthropological collection transferred from Berlin's Charité university hospital in 2011.
