Torbay’s art scene swipes right on creativity in bold new exhibition

A new exhibition titled SwipeRight4Art has opened at Artizan Gallery in Torquay, running until 4 May. Inspired by dating apps, the show invites visitors to engage with artworks as if swiping through profiles, using “matchmaker cards” to indicate which pieces they would “pass” or “match” with. The exhibition is the first project from Sienna Editions, a publishing and art venture co-founded by charcoal artist Hannah Leadbetter and landscape photographer Kevin Cowell, with backing from local studio Print2Wall and funding from Innovate UK. It features works by local artists including Szabotage, David Norman, Francesca Lawrence, Rosie Rowell, Peter Blakesley, and Sally Loxton, alongside pieces by the founders.

Art Exhibition coming to Torbay Hospital featuring nationally acclaimed artist

A new exhibition featuring the work of British marquetry artist Lucy Turner is opening at Torbay Hospital in England. Part of the 2026 HeArTs exhibition series, the show runs from January 18 to April 18 in the HeArTs Gallery on level 4. Turner, who has spent over 20 years perfecting her craft, creates vibrant, playful furniture and interior pieces using colored Formica laminate. She studied 3D design at the University of Plymouth and draws inspiration from her smallholding in Somerset. The exhibition includes specially created circular designs installed along the gallery corridor. Artist in residence Helen Snell praised the work as joyful and uplifting, noting its pop art and mid-century influences.

Brixham Art Society to host nautical exhibition alongside heritage sailing regatta

Brixham Art Society will host a three-day nautical-themed art exhibition at the Brixham Conservative Club from May 22 to May 24, running alongside the town's annual Heritage Sailing Regatta. The exhibition will feature maritime-inspired paintings by local and professional artists from Torbay and Brixham, including works depicting the heritage vessel Our Daddy, and will offer affordable greeting cards and original artwork for sale. Newly elected society president Mackenzie Moulton has created a painting of one of the regatta's heritage boats to connect the exhibition directly to the sailing event.
