Comedian Jim Moir, best known as Vic Reeves, has opened a solo exhibition titled 'Neo Fauna' at Cartwright Hall in Bradford. The show features his eclectic paintings and drawings, including watercolours of birds and the 'American Couples' series, where he paints over found family portraits. Moir insists his comedy career was an extension of his art practice, stating he is fundamentally 'just a painter.'
LA Louver, the longest-running gallery in Los Angeles, is closing its Venice, California space after 50 years in business. Founder Peter Goulds, who turns 77 next month, is transitioning the gallery into a private dealing model with pop-up exhibitions from its Jefferson Boulevard warehouse in West Adams. The Venice space will be listed for sale but remain open by appointment to sell inventory. The gallery is also donating its extensive archive to the Huntington Library in San Marino, which includes papers of writers like Octavia Butler and Christopher Isherwood.
Tate Britain is staging a major retrospective of Edward Burra (1905-76), the English painter known for his vivid depictions of urban underworlds, jazz clubs, and later brooding landscapes. The exhibition, curated by Thomas Kennedy, features over 80 paintings and newly discovered archival material spanning Burra's career from the 1920s to the 1970s, including rarities like 'Cornish Clay Mines' (1970) from a private collection. It also draws on Burra's extensive correspondence—described by his biographer Jane Stevenson as 'grubby letters'—which offers unprecedented insight into his personal world and chronic pain from rheumatoid arthritis and anemia.
