Sotheby’s Launches Museum Partnership Series, Starting with Exhibition by New York’s Hispanic Society Museum & Library

Sotheby's has launched a new exhibition initiative called 'In Residence' at its Breuer building on Madison Avenue, starting with a presentation of three paintings by Spanish master Joaquín Sorolla from the collection of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library. The inaugural show, titled 'In Residence: The Hispanic Society Sorollas,' opened Monday and runs through June 1, featuring works including 'Sea Idyll' (1909), 'Louis Comfort Tiffany' (1911), and 'Señora de Sorolla in a Spanish Mantilla' (1902). This marks the first partnership between Sotheby's and the Hispanic Society, and the first edition of a broader program inviting museums to stage focused exhibitions inside the Breuer building, which previously housed the Whitney Museum and the Met Breuer.

Alex Israel on finding inspiration in Erewhon, AI as a tool and new show 'Where Is My Mind'

Multimedia artist Alex Israel has launched his first collaboration with Pace Prints, releasing a new suite of 10 archival pigment prints titled 'Where Is My Mind?' The series, part of his ongoing Self Portrait project, features intimate-scale works that incorporate representational imagery within his signature silhouette—ranging from the Hollywood Bowl stage to aerial views of Los Angeles and a California desert scene with an iPhone outline. Each print began as a photograph, translated into paint by the Scenic Art department at Warner Brothers Studio, then scanned and mounted in custom frames. The show coincides with Pace Prints' upcoming expansion into Los Angeles in fall 2026.

‘Borderless’ art exhibit celebrates Asian and Pacific Islander heritage in Brentwood

The Brentwood Arts Exchange is hosting 'Borderless,' a mixed-media art exhibit celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, running through May 30. Curated by ceramics artist and art teacher Akemi Maegawa, the show features works from artists including Mei Mei Chang, Julia Chon, Jeff Huntington (JAHRU), Jun Lee, and Tang, representing Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The exhibit includes oil portraits, 3D masks, found-object installations, sculptures, and woodblock prints exploring themes of identity, migration, and cultural fluidity. On May 9, the artists participated in a talk as part of the Gateway Open Studios Tour, a one-day annual art event spanning multiple Maryland communities.
