Route 66 art exhibit opens at Amarillo Art Institute

The Amarillo Art Institute’s Vermillion Gallery opened the “Mother Road — Open Air, Open Road” exhibition, a juried show featuring plein air paintings of Route 66 landmarks in Texas and New Mexico. Awards were presented at a reception, with Wendy Ahlm winning Best in Show for “Help Wanted,” Lisa Flynn earning an Honorable Mention for “Café Stop,” and Dick Wimberley receiving the People’s Choice Award for his painting of the Blue Swallow Motel. Other winners included Carolyn Lindsey (second place) and Michele Byrne (third place).

PSAD Student Art Exhibition returns, showcasing year of creativity

The Paducah School of Art and Design (PSAD) is hosting its annual student art exhibition, featuring works created during the 2025-2026 academic year. The exhibition includes ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital photography, audio and video, graphic design, print production, and digital art. An opening awards ceremony will take place on May 1, 2026, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with cash merit awards in categories such as 2D art, 3D art, digital media, and commercial graphic design. Additional honors include the President’s Choice Purchase Award and a Juror’s Choice Award, judged by former PSAD director and photography instructor Paul Aho. The exhibition runs from May 1 to 8 at the Bill Ford Gallery in Paducah.

Story and photos: Howick Art Group exhibition opening

The Howick Art Group's Spring Festival Art Exhibition opened triumphantly at Howick Bowling Club, drawing over 100 attendees on Saturday evening. The show features 212 works by adult artists, plus student entries from local intermediate schools, with all pieces for sale. David Szeto won Best in Show for his painting "Beautiful Environment," which also took first in Landscapes. Juried Art Exhibition showcases over 150 submissions in Cambridge

The 22nd annual Juried Art Exhibition opened at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts on Saturday, featuring over 150 submissions from local artists. Local creatives impress judges

The Arrowtown Photography Competition, part of the Arrowtown Autumn Festival, awarded first place to Hazel Alviola for her black-and-white image 'Needhams Cottage'. Alviola, who only began photography last year, expressed disbelief at her win. Judges Todd Weeks and Leigh Jeffery also introduced a 'highly commended' award for Martin Barwood's wildlife photo 'White Faced Heron'. In the concurrent Bayleys Arrowtown Autumn Fest Art Exhibition, Jane Burdon won the $3,500 premier painting award, while Jade Barclay took the $750 best local painting award. Other winners included Lynne Fellows, Lynn Brochere Millar, Olivia Pickney, and Diana Turnbull Anderson, with merit awards given to Angus Milne, Jenny Hill, Tracey Morrow, and Jos Browning.
