Seoul According to Artist Etsu Egami

Japanese-born artist Etsu Egami, known for large-scale abstract paintings exploring language and communication barriers, has been chosen to inaugurate Korea's new OAR Contemporary Museum in Gyeongju with a solo exhibition titled "Egami Etsu: Echoes of the Earth." The show, running until September 21, features site-specific works inspired by the city's ancient tombs and the museum's architecture. Egami, who was raised across Washington, DC, Paris, and Japan and studied in Germany, Beijing, and New York, has previously exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York, Grand Palais in Paris, and Mori Art Museum. She first showed in South Korea in 2022 at Tang Contemporary in Seoul, and her work has gained recognition among Korean curators and collectors.

Frieze Seoul 2025 will bring together 120 galleries from over 30 countries for its fourth edition, running September 4–6 at the COEX convention center with a preview day on September 3. The fair coincides with Kiaf Seoul and is split into three sections: the main Galleries section (90 exhibitors), Focus Asia (10 solo presentations of emerging artists), and Frieze Masters (20 booths covering works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century). Rutherford Chang (1979-2025), a US post-conceptualist artist known for obsessive collections of everyday objects, is the subject of a posthumous exhibition at UCCA Beijing. The show, titled "Hundreds and Thousands," features his best-known works, including "CENTS" (2017-25)—a solid block of 10,000 melted pennies—and "We Buy White Albums" (2013-25), an installation of hundreds of vinyl copies of The Beatles' White Album, whose sleeves were often marked by previous owners. Korea's longest-running art fair to open with largest exhibition to date in April

The Galleries Association of Korea has announced that the 2025 Galleries Art Fair will be its largest edition since its inception in 1979. Opening on April 8 at the Coex convention center in Seoul, the fair will feature 169 member galleries, including major names like Kukje Gallery and Gana Art.
